Beachcomber Island in the Mamanuca Islands
Almost at the halfway point now. Went to the Mamanuca islands this weekend. We hired a car than took a ferry, after a night in Nadi, to get to the islands on the other side of the main island Vita Levu. We stayed on Beachcomber Island and the diving was completely different. Nadi is the tourist hub of Fiji and it is completely different to Suva and the Lomoviti islands.
Nadi and Denarau port are chalk and cheese compared with Suva. The shops are all geared up for tourists with money. Beachcomber Island is billed as a party island but thankfully we are out of season and I believe it's star has waned. Bamboo Travellers hostral in Nadi had more life. But with a 3 story apartment building being built slap bang next day, I suspect its days are also numbered. Amazing our taxi and ferry connections all worked out. You can fly to Nadi for 60 FJ but the flight back on Sunday is of course 200FJ. The car takes 3 and a half hours but you get there in the end. I went to a dodgy car hire company that completely met my expectations, but no worse than Hertz or Avis.
