Pacific Harbour
Last weekend we left Caqalai and went to Pacific Harbour about an hour away from Suva. This is a purpose built area on drained swamp land developed in the 70's. There are some beach resorts and an "Arts Village" with shops, restaurants and other facilities including a dive shop.
We stayed at the 'Uprising Resort" which was cheap. The beachfront bure we rented was huge with a really nice outside shower. Again because we are out of season plus the corona virus the place was pretty quiet, except for a wedding that was taking place. We caught up on some much needed sleep on the Saturday, had a potter around and the went diving on the Sunday.
Offshore there is an island called Beqa island which is famed for its shark diving. Lots of sharks because they feed them! The sharks dives are alternate days and I as we just wanted to dive the coral we went Sunday am. The visibility was excellent but the current was far to strong. We gulped our air quite quickly, which made the dives quite short. All good practice I suppose, but a bit knackering. We were drifting so fast I struggled to take any pictures.
There is quite a smart hotel in Pacific Harbour called "The Pearl". It actually started off as a Travelodge incredibly enough.
